Cox, Pat (1952 - )

Irish  politician; now president of the international European Movement President of the European Parliament between 2002 and 2004. Campaigned strongly for the Irish ratification of the Treaty of Nice in Ireland's second referendum in October 2002 and again in the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty 12 June 2008. 

Was elected in 2002 with support from the EPP, Liberals, UEN and most Greens with 298 votes to the 237 votes of the socialist David Martin. The euro-realist Jens-Peter Bonde obtained 76 votes for his "fair chair platform".

In 2004 he was succeeded as President of the European Parliament by Spanish MEP Josep Borrell (PES/PSE).
