The liberal parties were the first to establish a supernational political party in the EU. Within the EU Parliament they co-operate in the ALDE-group. The group president in the European Parliament is Graham Watson. He has declared him self candidate for the presidency in the European Parliament.
Watson succeeded Pat Cox, who had been President of the EU Parliament since 2002.
