Verhofstadt, Guy (11.4.53 - )
Former Belgian prime minister who was elected president of the liberal group in the European Parliament in July 2009.
Verhofstaedt initiatied and wrote personally the draft Laeken declaration. He was a candidate for the presidency of the European Commission in 2004 but was vetoed by the British because they found Verhofstadt too much of a strong federalist.
