Rehn, Olli ( 1962 - )
Olli Rehn is a Finnish politician, currently serving as European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs. Born in 1962 in Mikkeli, Finland, Mr. Rehn studied economics, international relations and journalism in the US and has a PhD in "Corporatism and Industrial Competitiveness in Small European States" from the University of Oxford.
A member of the Finnish Center Party, he was a member of the Finnish Parliament from 1991. In 1995 he became and MEP and was aligned with the Liberal group in the European Parliament.
In the Barroso I Commission (2004-2009) Rehn held the office as Commissioner for Enlargement. Between July and November 2004 Rehn served in the Prodi Commission as the Commissioner for Enterprise and Information Society.
Since taking office Rehn has presided over the admission of Romania and Bulgaria in 2007 and over the controversial issue of Turkey's accession to the EU. While being a supporter of the Turkey joining the EU, he suggested the insertion of permanent limitations on the flow of workers from that country.
