Bulgaria has a population of 7.72 million and an area of 111,000 km².

Joined the EU January 1st 2007. Has had a Europe agreement since 1995.

Bulgaria has 10 out of 345 votes in the Council and 18 seats in the EU Parliament.

The EU Constitution proposes a distribution of seats in the EU Parliament based on the principle of "degressive proportionality". This will give Bulgaria 18 out of 750 seats after 2009.
