Has a population of 21.61 million and an area of 235,500 km2.
Romania became member of the EU on the 1st of January 2007 together with Bulgaria.
Before this date, the country had a Europe Agreement since 1995 and an Accession Partnership from 1998.
Romania has 33 of 736 seats in the European Parliament and 14 of 345 votes in the Council of Ministers. This is 4.1 % of the votes.
The Lisbon Treaty would give Romania 4.3 % of the votes in the Council from 1 November 2014.
