Germany has a population of 82 million and has an area of 360,000 km2. It was one of the original EEC member states.

After the enlargement of the EU, Germany has 29 votes out of 345 in the Council and 99 of 736 seats in the European Parliament.

For Germany, the revised EU Constitution - the Lisbon Treaty - foresees 96 of 751 seats in the European Parliament from 2014 against 99 seats today and - also from 2014 - a doubling of its voting weight in the Council of Ministers from 8.4% today to 16.41% - Germany’s share of the EU population.

Germany has 16 Länder with representation in the Bundesrat. The smallest state of Saar land has 1 million citizens and 3 representatives in the Bundesrat. The biggest North Rhine-Westphalia with 18 million citizens has 6 seats.
