Germany has a population of 82.44 million and has an area of 360,000 km². It was one of the original EEC Member States.

After the enlargement of the EU, Germany has 29 votes out of 321 in the Council and 99 seats out of 732 in the EU Parliament.

For Germany, the revised EU Constitution foresees 96 seats in the European Parliament (99 seats today) and a weight of 16.73 % (Germany’s EU population) of its votes in the Council (as against 8.41 % today).
