Commissioner for competition, a Liberal from the Netherlands. Came under fire on her appointment because she had been a managing director or had served on the boards of firms for which she now had responsibility as a commissioner. Barroso had to promise to refer matters to other Commissioners when Neelie Kroes was deemed unfit to act. ALDE.
