Racism and Xenophobia

Discrimination is forbidden in the EU.
Racism and xenophobia were first outlawed at the EU level in a “Joint Declaration” between the institutions in 1986. This principle is now a part of the TEC, Art. 13, introduced under the Treaty of Nice. They are also forbidden in the Charter of fundamental rights which will be legally binding by the Lisbon Treaty .
