The EU statistical office in Luxembourg.
In 2003 Eurostat was at the centre of a big economic scandal (see Eurostat scandal). The director Yves Franchet was transferred and investigation into his actions was initiated by the police authorities, OLAF and the EU-Parliaments budget control committee.
The appointment of Marie Bohatá as Deputy Director General in 2004, is part of efforts to assure Eurostat's proper functioning.
