Estonia has a population of 1,35 million and an area of 45,226 km². Estonia became an EU member on 1^st May 2004.

Formerly a component republic of the USSR. Became an independent state in 1991. Signed a Europe agreement in 1995 and entered into Accession Partnership in 1998. Through a referendum on 14 September 2003, 67% of Estonians voted in favour of Estonia´s accession to the EU.

Estonia has 4 out of 345 votes in the Council, and 6 out of 785 seats in the EU Parliament.

The EU Constitution proposes a distribution of seats in the EU Parliament based on the principle of "degressive proportionality". This will give Estonia 6 out of 750 seats after 2009.
