Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe, CSCE

A pan-European conference concluded in Helsinki during the Cold War in 1975 as a co-operation between 35 East and West European states as well as the USA and Canada.

The conference was followed up with special conferences on human rights and security-building measures.  

Notes

- The CSCE is in competition with the new defence dimension of the EU.

- The CSCE is now named OSCE.
