The EU legislators finalized the process of creating a new chemicals policy for Europe in December 2006.

REACH entered into force on 1 June 2007. REACH will make sure that the around 100.000 chemicals on the European market are registered and the most dangerous are replaced by less dangerous chemicals.

An EU Chemicals Agency has been established in Finland.
