Grybauskaite, Dalia (1956 - )

Member of the Barroso commission 2004-2009. Lithuanian commissioner for Financial Programming and Budget. Dalia Grybauskaite graduated as economist at Leningrad University in 1983. She started her career in an economic research institute, but very soon became a director of department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and was nominated chief negotiator with IMF and USA. Between 1996-1999 she headed the Lithuanian Embassy in Washington and later, in 2001 she became the Minister of Finance of her country.

Dalia Grybauskaite, who speaks half a dosen languages, played a significant role in negotiating Lithuania's accession to the EU. Grybauskaite shadowed Viviane Reding at Education and Culture.
