Lithuania has a population of 3.35 million and an area of 65,000 km2.
It became an EU member state on 1 May 2004.
Membership was finally decided in a national referendum in which around 90% of the voters supported EU membership. Has had a Europe agreement since 1995 and entered into Accession Partnership in 1998.
