The "Father of the EU" and the first President of the High Authority, Jean Monnet, formed ACUSE to campaign for a federal Europe in 1955. The Committee played an important role in the conception, signature and ratification of the Treaties of Rome, as well as in the development of European integration, culminating in the Conference of Heads of State and Government.
