ACP countries

Poor countries cooperating with the EU. Mainly former colonies of EU countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) that have special agreements with the EU in such matters as trade and aid.

In 2000, the former Lomé V Convention was renegotiated for 20 years and renamed the  Cotonou Agreement after it was signed in the capital of Benin. The agreement now covers 78 ACP countries and 640 million people. Cuba's membership has been heavily discussed.
