Tobin tax

Tobin tax

It has been proposed to tax all currency transactions with, for example, 0.1% to make international currency speculation less volatile and to finance sustainable development.

The Commission proposd a more limited taxation of shares, bonds and securities in 2011. The Council rejected the idea, which was named after the American professor of economics, James Tobin.

The idea has been realised in some EU countries as France and Germany.
