Belgium has a population of 10.51 million and an area of 30,500 km2. It was one of the original EEC Member States.

Subsequent to the enlargement of the EU, Belgium has 12 votes out of 345 in the Council and 24 seats out of 785 in the EU Parliament.

For Belgium, the revised EU Constitution foresees 22 seats in the European Parliament (24 seats today) and a weight of 2.13 % (Belgium’s EU population) of its votes in the Council (as against 3.48 % today).
