The Netherlands have a population of 16.33 million and an area of 41,500 km².

The Netherlands was among the six original EEC Member States. After enlargement in 2004, it has 13 votes out of 321 in the Council and 27 seats out of 732 in the EU Parliament.

For the Netherlands, the revised Constitution foresees 26 seats in the European Parliament (27 seats today) and a weight of 3.31 % (Holland’s EU population) of its votes in the Council (as against 3.77 % today).
