A part of the former Yugoslavia, now named FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia). Sent application for membership of the EU in March 2004.
Notes
- Macedonia is the oldest surviving name of a European country. It was once given to an ancient kingdom founded in 808 B.C.
- The northern part of Greece is also named Macedonia. Therefore Greece does not want another state with the same name.
