Latvia has a population of 2.30 million and an area of 64,589 km2.
It became an EU Member State on 1st May 2004. Has had a Europe agreement since 1995 and entered into Accession Partnership in 1998.
It has 4 out of 321 votes in the Council and 9 out of 732 seats in the EU Parliament.
The EU Constitution proposes a distribution of seats in the EU Parliament based on the principle of "degressive proportionality". This will give Latvia 9 out of 750 seats after 2009.
