Latvia has a population of 2.26 million and an area of 64,589 km2.
It became an EU member state on 1 May 2004. Has had a Europe agreement since 1995 and entered into Accession Partnership in 1998.
It has 4 out of 345 votes in the Council and 8 out of 736 seats in the European Parliament.
The Lisbon Treaty will reduce the Latvian influence in the Council of Ministers from 1,2 to 0,45% of the votes when member states have a second vote after the size of their population.
The new voting system is introduced from 1 November 2014.
