The Initiative & Referendum Institute Europe supports the introduction of direct democracy in Europe. Such as, on the EU level:
- the proposed referendums on the EU Constitution in all Member States on the same date
- the right to citizens' petitions, Article I-47 (4) of the EU Constitution, that may lead to a right of initiative, as the Article's title indicates.
The IRI is an independent research institute founded in 2001 to do research on initiative and referenda and to promote direct democracy in Europe.
