Industrial Policy

The Lisbon Treaty provides for industrial policy be a part of the area for supportive, co-ordinating or supplemental initiatives. The EU can decide legally binding laws but not harmonise national laws. See Article 6.b TFEU and 173 TFEU.

The Treaty of Nice introduced qualified majority voting for supporting measures in the area of industrial policy to promote competitiveness in European industry.
