EU support programme for the exchange and education of police officers and jurors running from 1998-2002. It was named after the famous Italian judge who was murdered by the Mafia in 1992.
The aim of the Falcone programme was to enhance co-operation and exchange between persons and organisations involved in the fight against organised crime. The programme was replaced by AGIS.
- A typical EU Commission initiative to widen the scope for community action and Commission involvement in an area, which was originally in the intergovernmental third pillar and therefore not part of the Commission’s competence.
