The last part of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Schiller's "Ode to Joy" is the 'anthem' of the EU. It was originally used by the Council of Europe together with a flag of a ring of stars against a blue background. The draft EU Constitution would confirm it as the official anthem of the European Union. This sentence – but not the anthem - disappeared in the Lisbon Treaty.
