The 11 September 2001 the New York World Trade Center twin towers were destroyed by a terrorist act. The western countries answered with far reaching terror legislation where civil rights were disregarded with the aim to fight terroriism.
Eleven years later there were big discussions about revising some of the tough policies. The European Court outlawed parts of the EU legislation forcing telephone companies to keep tapes of all telephone calls, email traffic etc.
