The EU budget for 2010 was agreed in December 2009 and approximated to 141.5 billion EUR.
Income
EU custom duties and sugar levies – 14,203 billion EUR
VAT from the member states – 13,950 billion EUR
Payments from member states by GNI – 93,352 billion EUR
Miscellaneous + surpluses from the previous year (p.m.) – 1,430 billion EUR
Total income – 122,937 billion EUR (1.04% of GNI)
Expenditure (commitments)
Sustainable growth – 64.3 billion EUR (of which 14.9 billion for Competitiveness and 49.4 billion for Cohesion)
Preservation and management of natural resources – 59.4 billion EUR (of which 43.8 billion was for Direct payments and market related expenditure and 15.7 billion for Rural development, environment and fisheries)
Citizenship, freedom, security and justice – 1.7 billion EUR (of which 1 billion for Freedom, security and justice and 0.7 billion for Citizenship)
The EU as a global player – 8.1 billion EUR
Administrative expenditure (for all EU institutions) – 7.9 billion EUR (of which 3.6 billion for the Commission)
Total expenditure - 141,500 billion EUR (1.20% of GNI)
Notes: As the current year focused on investing to restore jobs and growth, the biggest share of funds went in that direction – that is 45%, which meant around 64.3 billion EUR.
