President of the new political group European Conservatives and Reformists, ECR, established in July 2009 on the initiative of the British Conservatives. Kaminsky was a close advisor to the former Polish President and represents the Law and Justice party in the EP.

Kaminsky should have ben elected as vice president in the European Parliament according to the internal deals in the ECR. Then, the outgoing British Conservative vice president stood against him and against the decision of his party. He was expelled from the party and as compensation to the Polish sub group they then had to elect him president of the group.

The post as president was foreseen for Timothy Kirkhope who is now the deputy leader of the new ECR group. British Geoffrey van Orden was also a candidate for the job as group leader. He lost the internal battle in the British sub group but could have won the post with the support from Czech ODS and the Polish Law and Justice parties.
