Mini-Treaty

After the EU constitution had been rejected by a French referendum on 29 May 2005, the then French presidential candidate Nicolas Sarkozy proposed a mini treaty instead. 

After his election however, he supported the revised EU constitution under its new name: The Reform Treaty. Although the content is basically the same, the Constitution’s new name aimed at avoiding another referendum - and was mnuch bigger in nujmber of pages.

In the end, the name became the Lisbon Treaty.
