CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MEPs

On 1 January 2012 the European Parliament got its “Code of Conduct for Members of the European Parliament”, with rules on financial interests, gifts etc.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR COMMISSIONERS

In 2004 and 2011 the Commission adopted its Code of Conduct with many rules for Commissioners' behaviour during and after their periods in office. Gifts above €150 may be received, but they cannot be kept personally.

This ‘Code of Conduct’ was adopted on 24 November 2004 and amended in 2011. 

It includes rules for the declaration of Commissioners' economic interests and their spouses’ activities and rules for visits and gifts. The Code was a concession to the European Parliament after criticism of the acceptance by José Manuel Barroso of a holiday from Greek shipowner Spiros Latsis.
