Adonnino Committee

Named after the Italian member of the European Parliament who in 1984 headed a working group of the European Council that initiated wide proposals for a "People's Europe" which would encourage people to use the EU symbols and various forms of Euopean-wide activity in order  to develop a European consciousness over and above a national one.

Most of the Committee's proposals have been implemented. The report was adopted at a summit meeting in Dublin in December 1984.
