Chirac, Jacques (1932 - )

President of France (2000-2007), hosted the record five-day summit in Nice that established the Treaty of Nice in December 2000.

Lost the French referendum on the proposed EU Constitution on 29 May 2005.

Chirac did not stand as a candidate in the Presidential elections of May 2007, when  Nicolas Sarkozy was elected president.
