Strasbourg

The official seat of the European Parliament where 12 (each lasting 3½ days) plenary sittings have to take place per year. The meetings start Monday at 5pm and end on Thursday afternoon.

The majority of members wish meetings to be held in  Brussels. However, this is decided by unanimity between prime mninisters according to a special protocol on seats from Decvmber 1992.

Strasbourg is also the seat of the Council of Europe and home to the European Court of Human rights and the military Euro corps.

In 2006, it was discovered that the city of Strasbourg every year demands 1.000.000 € in extra rent copared to the amount that the city pays itself. This scandal opened up the old debate whether or not all meetings should be held in Brussels.
