Bilateral Agreements Switzerland - EU
Switzerland has seven bilateral agreements with the EU, in the same economic areas as the European Economic Area, EEA.
Swiss voters so far have not agreed to join the EEU. The government lost a mandatory referendum on this. Another facultative referendum called by popular initiative to begin negotiations on Swiss EU accession was also lost.
The way of bilateral agreements - also subject to referendums - is at present considered by the majority of Swiss to be the only one respecting their interests and rights.
