Draghi, Mario (1947 -)
Italian banker, economist and head of the Bank of Italy, who succeeded Jean-Claude Trichet as head of the European Central Bank, ECB on 1 November 2011.
Draghi saved the euro i 2012 by declaring publicly that the bank would do whatever it takes to save the southern euro-countries from collapse.
His London speech got markets to lower interest rates on sovereign debt, enabling repayments without particular states defaulting.
Draghi had previously worked as director of the World Bank and of the American finance house Goldman Sachs, which helped to bring Greece into the Eurozone on the basis of false statements regarding its financial position.
