TEC, TEU and TFEU
In the previous Nice Treaty, the abbreviation TEC was often added after an Article to distinguish its articles from TEU-articles of the Treaty on European Union, referring to the second and third pillar in the same treaty.
The Lisbon Treaty amended the Treaty on European Union (TEU) and the Treaty Establishing the European Community (TEC). The TEU has kept its previous title. The TEC has been renamed the “Treaty on the Functioning of the Union” - TFEU.
The word “Community” has been replaced by the word “Union” throughout the treaties.
The Union has one single legal personality,
Whereas the term “Community” has disappeared entirely
with the new Treaty, its supranational “communitarian” concept applies to both
the TEU and the TFEU.
