Azo colours

Additives which are used in food products. Can cause allergies, but are allowed by the EU.  

Sweden used the environmental clause to defend its national protection rules. Sweden confiscated 350 kilos of candy coloured with Ponceau 4R (E124). The EU Commission intervened and Sweden lost its case on the matter in the EU Court in Luxembourg.  

Notes

Other well-known allergy risk azo additives are tartrazin and sunset yellow.
