OLAF
An independent fraud-fighting office in the EU Commission led by Franz-Hermann Brüner. Took over from UCLAF.
The European Parliament's Committee on Budgetary Control would not re-appoint Brüner in 2006. Neither was he the Councils favourite, in spite of this he was appointed by the Commission. Brüner was citicised by the Ombudsman for lying in the so-called "Hans-Martin Tillack case".
Brüner had made the Belgian police arrest Tillack and confiscate his address books in order to find out whom his sources were. Tillack has written about the Eurostat-scandal in the German weekly magazine Stern.
