Community Charter of the Fundamental Social Rights for Workers

Workers in different countries have common minimum rights according to different international conventions.

The EU has minimum rules to be followed. The Community Charter of the Fundamental Social Rights was adopted in December 1989 by the European Council to affirm the importance of the social aspects of the Single Market.   

Notes

- Not to be confused with the European Social Charter of the Council of Europe.

- Social rights are now included in the Charter of Fundamental Rights  of the EU, which is made legally binding by Art. 6 TEU in the Lisbon Treaty.
