Advocate general

Beside its judges, the  EU Court in Luxembourg has nine advocates-general who assist in preparing judgements. They comment on court cases giving written opinions which are not binding upon the Court but which usually influence its decisions and often indicate what the latter are likely to be.The number of advocates-general may be extended by a unanimous decision of the Council.
