Case law

The  judicial decisions of the EU Court in Luxembourg.  EU case-law is one of the motors of further EU integration.

The Court of Justice has among other things used its judicial powers to fill gaps in the treaties and in EU legislation. It also develops new legal principles, derived from the objectives of the Treaties as well as their specific wording. This has had the practical effect of extending integration directed towards "än ever closer Union" further than the actual words in the treaties originally seemed to allow.

The Lisbon Treaty provides that a qualified majority may establish new specialised courts as part of the EU Court.
