Buitenen, Paul van (1957 - )
Famous whistleblower - Member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009.
Dutch civil servant in the EU Commission, who in 1998 went to the group leaders in the European Parliament regarding alleged fraud in the EU Commission.
He had tried to change the system from inside but was prevented. Subsequently he became the first in a line of well-known EU "whistleblowers".
In 2004 he was elected to the European Parliament on the basis of his own political list in the Netherlands. He was not a candidate in the European elections in 2009 and 2014.
